Tufting guide
How to project an image onto tufting cloth
Projection transfers your design onto the frame, but screen size is not a physical measurement. Check the actual image on the cloth before tracing the whole rug.
Quick workflow
- Connect a projector by cable or AirPlay.
- Measure the calibration square on the cloth.
- Enter the measured value until the square is exact.
- Lock scale and trace without moving the frame or projector.
RugReady does these steps on your iPhone, with a free sample to try first.Get the app →
Set up the frame before calibrating
Position the projector so the design fits on the usable cloth. Get the frame and projector stable, then adjust focus and alignment. Check that a square looks square rather than trapezoidal. Moving either item after calibration changes the result.
Measure on the cloth
Display the calibration square and measure it with a ruler at the cloth, not on your phone. Follow the calibration controls and measure again. Verify both width and height; a correct width alone does not rule out distortion. Confirm the outer dimensions of the design too.
Keep a paper option
If a projector is unavailable, export the stencil as tiled PDF pages. Print at 100% or Actual Size with Fit to Page disabled, and measure the calibration square first. Use the overlap and registration marks to assemble the pages before transferring the outline.
Before you start: Recheck scale if the projector or frame moves, or after reconnecting the display. Confirm orientation before marking the cloth.
Do it in RugReady
RugReady Pro provides external-display projection and A4 or US Letter tiled PDF export with overlap, registration marks, and a calibration sheet.
